Lei Aloha Lei Makamae
-My Beloved Lei - My Cherished One -
The traditional wedding song Lei Aloha Lei Makamae, speaks of one as being like a beloved and cherished lei. The maile pikakelei , shown here in your Ka Palapala Male, has come to symbolize the wedding flowers of modern Hawaii. The fragrance of the maile offers a delicate balance to the heady jasmine of the pikake. Both envelop the wedding couple with a sensation of sweetness so appropriate for their special day.

E Hoomau Maua Kealoha
-May our love last forever-
In Hawaiian legend the naupaka flower represents lovers who were tragically separated. Like the lovers, one half of the flower was "banished" to the mountains and the other to the ocean's sandy shore. In this Ka Palapala Male showing both the Koolau mountains and Kaneohe Bay the naupaka flowers - like the lovers - are once again whole and joined forever.

Hookahi Makamaka O Ko Aloha
-Our love begins the union of our life together-
Anchored in the serene beauty of the ocean are some of the loveliest flowers found in Hawaii. Each species, shown here with its "mate", represents the qualities that an individual brings to a union. The lehua blossoms symbolize passion, anthuriums are values shared, orchids are kindness and compassion, and the birds of paradise are the warmth of mingled laughter. Standing alone is the king protea because it represents that which is created when two people are spiritually joined through love.
